Immortalize The Voice Of A Loved One – Hire A Ghostwriter

Imagine that you have inherited the rights to a scenario. You would not be alone. In fact, it’s trending – understandable since over forty thousand screenplays have been written per year for the past twenty-five years. It was only a matter of time before they were resurrected as the final legacies.

Your imaginary benefactor’s eulogy glorified the dedication, passion and sacrifice with which the words were captured on the page. Words that, in a unique style, express muses, meanders and observations on life. Words that were this budding playwright’s most prized possession. Words that for some reason now belong to you!

Every writer has known the curse of an untold story. Being haunted by your own ideas is annoying enough. But remembering a pending heirloom at every family reception is unbearable. What were once whispers of time ill spent, chattered in a responsibility to the family name. “It’s a shame to think that the only credits his work earned was in his will” will follow you when all you want is more potato salad.

Depending on what suits your character, a stoic response to the call of duty or a dramatic surrender with your arms in the air, prepare for the arrival of reality. Your pen just wrote promises it can’t keep. If you’re a writer, time is already rationed between personal projects. On the other hand, if you’re “challenged by the storytelling” (as she was), the task is a bit more ominous.

So . . . who are you gonna call? Ghostwriters!

Don’t dismiss the idea too quickly. Appreciate that ghostwriting has been an innocent but respectable option for centuries. Since there are speeches, memoirs or sequels, the writing is outsourced. The cultural work of ghosts has not been limited to literature. Music and painting also have a history of ghost contributions.

Does it honestly matter that “co-written by” or “as told to” appear on the cover, as long as the story is engaging? Chances are the book will be better because of it.

Next time you visit your favorite online bookstore, be sure to browse through the memoirs. Much of the work was written on condition of anonymity. Ask yourself these questions: “Do you really think there are so many that were written by you? “Is it reasonable to assume that celebrities and sports personalities whose success is the result of a lifetime of practice, were suddenly also suited to be competent authors?” Picking up a scalpel would be amazing, so why not a pen?

In the publishing and film industries, ghostwriting is ubiquitous. The development editor identifies significant revisions needed to make a manuscript marketable. On a larger scale, teams of anonymous professional writers do the same for major Hollywood releases. A script reversed from the final production would rarely resemble the original.

Don’t let partial knowledge keep you from pursuing the ghostwriting exam when you can’t do it yourself. If a qualified writer can be found at an acceptable price, isn’t it worth breaking the curse and setting the story free?

Assuming the decision to continue, the next step is to find one. Rather than searching for “ghostwriter”, post the writing project on an independent database. The first approach will list services charging $10,000 to $30,000 and the project should fit into their schedule. The second will return several offers ranging from $500 to $1000 from an international wealth of passionate writers.

At these rates, your scribe will struggle. Therefore, even the most effective writing can hide serious problems between the lines. It can be bland without inspiration. Characters can be stereotypical or weakly drawn. Backstory and exposition can be dumps of information disrupting the flow of the story. The style can be torn apart by distractions that cause the reader to disengage. The potential for defects is considerable. Therefore, expect to spend time on editorial review. Lean on your friends and family to criticize it as if it were your own. Use a standardized review from writing sites or an editorial filtering service.

Before publishing a project description, understand the differences between a script and a manuscript. Any screenplay, even one nominated by the Academy, is not publishable as a novel. Few people would buy a copy of a screenplay for a good read.

Aside from directing instructions, the story content of a screenplay is essentially a subset of a script. Both have hook, characters, dialogue, problem, goal, conflicts, climax, character growth, and ending. In addition to this, the manuscript contains narratives that elaborate on setting, backstory, characterization, action, and emotional depth. Without it, a screenplay is mostly dialogue. In a manuscript, the dialogue usually comprises 40% to 60% of the content.

Therefore, the project essentially consists of approaching the dialogues of the screenplay as the plot or the skeleton of the story. For this, the stories made up of the missing elements are expanded or superimposed.

The project description also includes elements of evaluation and promotion. It is worth requesting a sample specification chapter, along with a pitch, synopsis, and logline.

As offers come in, the evaluation process resembles the role of an HR department. Desirable skill sets include the ability to:

– blast the page author’s words in their original voice and style rather than what they post personally;

– experience and interest in the subject;

– condition the concept so that an agent can sell it;

– proofread and refine own work;

– collaborate;

– to research;

and of course,

– write.

The ability to negotiate will totally depend on the number of offers. Regarding the quality, there is no guarantee at any cost. A tactic, however, can hedge your investment. Try to negotiate a progress payment agreement. Request performance advances to be released upon delivery of pre-determined chapters/pages. If the writing fails to meet expectations at pre-established milestones, no commitment to continue will exist.

A second tactic to improve the caliber of writing is to fully disclose the collaboration with the term “co-author”. With the ghost’s name on the jacket, more effort will likely be invested. The fame or fame given up in exchange is fleeting anyway.

Finally, offer to split any product 50/50. Few experienced writers will take on spec projects. If a talented novice does this, it can motivate writing as if it were a bestseller.

The services of a ghostwriter are worth considering whenever a story is trapped in a script and time or ability is scarce. If the scenario is yours, don’t leave it up to the reading on your own. Forget the designation of beneficiaries because of the interest once expressed in your writing. They are family. They were just polite. Do it yourself while you are alive. Let them enjoy the potato salad!
