How To Make Great Money Part Time Buying And Selling Domain Names – Part One
It really is the business to get into in 2005. It’s a hot opportunity that savvy investors can take a hit with when they know how to go about it. And this article will take you step by step through the process of making money.
Don’t be put off by the term “investors”. I’m not talking big bucks here. As long as you have £5 to spare per week, you can make a lot of money in just half an hour of your time. Like the sound of that? I thought so.
There are several ways to make money by buying domain names and selling them for profit. And I mean PROFIT. You’ll understand why people will be scratching at your door to buy from you in a moment.
Let’s start with the basics.
All domain names are registered for a limited time only. Registrars can choose to use the name for a period of 1 to 10 years. After that, the rights to these domain names expire and the user must renew the name again. If it doesn’t, it will be put on hold for a short time and then deleted. This means that it is then available for anyone who wants to buy it!
This is where you can cash out!
20,000 expired domain names are made available every day. Some of them are very attractive and well-established names.
Example. Last year, the owners of Race.com did not renew their registration fees. It was seized (the term used to describe the purchase of an expired name) by a savvy “investor” for a few pounds and resold for thousands upon thousands to the previous owner.
The owner was ready to pay huge sums to the investor because he had accumulated qualified traffic over X years and did not want to lose all the previous custom.
Now, I admit that making a sale for thousands is rare, but it is certainly possible.
Chances are you can buy a domain name and register it for £5 to £50 and then resell it for anything between £150 and £1000. Do that with five domain names a week, and you’re looking at a lot of money for just a few hours of work.
It’s not just companies that carelessly left their domain names that will buy you out. These are also other businesses that will buy the name to get traffic from the old owners. This is a legitimate way to increase your customer base.
And if the previous owner and a potential new owner get into a bidding war…well…the sky really is the limit.
So there are two main reasons why people will be willing to pay YOU a few hundred pounds for a domain name.
a) They carelessly let the domain name expire. This means that they will pay you to get the name back to ensure that they don’t lose their existing traffic that they may have accumulated over years and years.
B) It is a company in the same field as the one that let the name expire and therefore will pay you to secure a rival’s existing customer base.
Here’s step-by-step how you go about this incredibly profitable part-time business.
There are several sources of information on expired domain names and search tools, some free and some paid.
http://www.wehavethem.com provides lists of names to remove. http://Www.DeletedDomains.com allows you to perform free and more in-depth searches for an annual fee of $99. You can search for names that need to be removed and also allows you to bid on newly removed names that have already been snapped up by other ‘investors’.
What you are looking for is an expired domain name with traffic in the last month over 1500. Make sure the site is a genuine consumer site. There is no point in buying a domain name if the previous site did not sell any property.
If you see a site that has had tens of thousands of visitors in the last month, GET IT. It’s likely that the previous owners will be eager to take their name off you due to its obvious success.
Also, if you see a name with a lot of qualified traffic that is due to expire and has a high traffic volume, use an automated capture system such as http://www.snapnames.com and http://www.pool.com . These will ensure that the second they are available, you will have them saved. The cost is around $60, but only if they get the names for you. Really worth it in my eyes.
Remember that you could easily sell the name for hundreds or even thousands.
In Part 2, we’ll look at how to sell the names once you’ve acquired them. But in the meantime, here are some domain names that were on sale at the time of writing this article. Obviously, not all names sell equally, but it’s entirely possible that you’ll stumble upon a gem in your business.

ejobmarket.com $1,800

The profits of this company are unlike any other. Now it’s up to you to get your hands on your slice of the billion dollar domain name buying and selling industry.
Till next time…
